Saarbahn Netz GmbH, together with Saarbahn GmbH, belongs to the Saarbrücker Stadtwerke Group, a subsidiary of the state capital of Saarbrücken. In addition to the planning, construction and operation of the light rail system, Saarbahn Netz is also responsible for the operation of the workshops and infrastructure facilities in the rail and bus sectors, as well as customer management and sales. The Saarbahn GmbH route network currently consists of 46 bus and train lines, with a network length of around 618 kilometers (575 km bus and 43 km train) in the saarVV area and in neighboring France. 128 buses and 28 trains transport around 43 million people every year. The fleet of Saarbahn GmbH and its cooperation partners achieves an annual mileage of around 8.9 million operational kilometers in local public transport. Of this, 7.1 million are commercial kilometers by bus and 1.8 million commercial vehicle kilometers by train. Saarbahn Netz has been using stationary ticket vending machines at various locations throughout its network for ticket sales since 1997. However, these machines will no longer be economically viable to maintain in the coming years due to the lack of spare parts and the fact that these vending machines no longer meet the current state of the art. Since 2005, Saarbahn Netz has introduced e-ticketing according to the German VDV-KA standard. With this tender, Saarbahn GmbH intends to award 49 stationary ticket vending machines and a device background system. The complete conversion is scheduled to be completed by summer 2027.
